Post Operative Care:

Your animal is always in the best of care, as Central Vets & Pets employs fully qualified veterinary technicians to look after your pet throughout their stay with us, with most animals going home the same day of surgery.

Pain Relief:

We take managing pain very seriously.

All animals that have received any form of surgery, go home on full pain medication, and this is usually maintained for at least 5 days post operation to ensure your pet is comfortable as the healing process occurs.

In fact the largest inconvenience for your loved pet is the ‘cone of shame’ that, unfortunately, is a necessary part of the healing process, as they are not very good at doing what they are told when asked to stop licking their incision sites.

Cone of Shame:

After any operation the healing process consists of two main phases.  The first is the initial painful or inflammatory phase, where the operation site is bruised and sore.  This period usually last 3-5 days, after which the second phase of healing occurs.

The second phase is when the scar formation starts to occur.  In this phase the incision goes from being sore to being extremely itchy as the body tries to pull everything together.

Between days 7-10, the wound starts to contract making the itchiness get even worse.

The ‘cone of shame’ is vitally important throughout these 10 days if you want a perfect healing process to occur as it stops the wound being licked or chewed.

Post Operative Checks:

At Central vets & Pets we always have free post operative checks for your pet.  These occur on day 5-7 and day 10-14 after the operation just to make sure everything is healing nicely and as it should.

These are pre booked automatically for you before you collect your animal after a surgical procedure has been completed and are a very good way for us to manage the healing process for you and have your pet back to full health as quickly as possible.

If you find a lump or bump on your pet please make an appointment to visit one of our veterinarians to discuss any surgery your pet may require.

You can even send us a photo to centralvetsandpets@gmail.com and one of our veterinary team will assess it for you and provide you a quote to fix it.
